VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The suggestion comes nearly 10 years after Vancouver last hosted the Molson Indy, the difference being, these cars would be much quieter and far more environmentally-friendly.
NPA Councillor Elizabeth Ball intents to bring a motion to council next week, calling on staff to explore ways how the city can go after the one day FIA Formula E Championship race and dash.
“There have been so many cities saying, ‘Yes, we want this!’ because they realize the economic generator but also the excitement for the populace and being able to attend such an exciting event.”
If the motion is passed, Ball hopes staff could report back in the early fall with their findings.
“So, it’s an environmentally sound way of racing and that’s one of the reasons that it has been developed because, really, electric cars are, you know, the future for us.”
London, Rome, Los Angeles, Miami, Beijing, Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro are among the cities already on the FIA circuit.
Practice rounds, qualifying rounds and the actual race would take place in a single day to minimize disruption.
