VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – With electric cars finally dropping to affordable prices, the province is offering more reason for you to make the switch.

The premier has announced some financial incentives.

If you’re buying a new electric or plug-in hybrid, you’re now able to get up to $5,000. You’ll also get $6,000 for hydrogen cell cars.

But if you’re a high-roller buying an electric vehicle worth more $77,000, Premier Christy Clark says you won’t be getting this help.

“If you can afford a car over $77,000, we’re not going to be subsidizing that. We’re going to redirect those subsidies to people for less-expensive cars,” says Clark.

This comes just a day after we told you about the province’s plan to allow drivers of electric vehicles to drive in the HOV lane without needing a passenger. In order to do so, drivers must clearly display a decal issued by the province.
